“This small painting has a quiet strength to it that came as a surprise. Initially, I applied the marks tentatively, taking time to form the facets of the mountain. However, the marks soon became too rigid and forced and I became frustrated with not only how it looked but felt. I freed up my marks, imagining I was painting on a larger canvas and let go of the “correct” way of painting. I much prefer this version than the one I had started out with.
