“I’m really enjoying experimenting with non-representational colour. Painting a coloured ground first of various indigos, violets and blues created a fun backdrop to paint a garden scene over top of. The merging of these two images was enjoyable, where the challenge was to only suggest just enough of the garden without filling in all areas of the canvas. Yellows really pop against the purple ground and the remaining blues and greens are either yellow or purple-based, cementing this complementary colour palette. I named it after a Claude Monet quote I found recently:

“What keeps my heart awake is colourful silence.”
